Makeover for Palace Shopping

A more accessible and attractive shopping experience is promised when the next phase of improvements at the Square in Palace Shopping is complete. Work is now underway to upgrade the Square between Pearsons department store and Marks & Spencer.

This latest phase will see the replacement of the brick paving, lighting and planters with new surfacing, improved lighting, stylish planters and additional seating – creating a more welcoming and safe space for shoppers and visitors to relax and enjoy in Enfield Town.

To carry out these works, sections of the Square will be hoarded off in phases, beginning in front of M&S, ensuring that visitors can continue to move freely between Palace Gardens and Palace Exchange. Our priority is the safety of shoppers at all times. Some noise is expected during paving removal, but every effort will be made to minimise disruption.

At the same time, Pearsons is embarking on a major refurbishment, including a ground-floor extension. These works are being closely coordinated and once finished will significantly improve the department store while maintaining its heritage as a central part of Enfield’s retail scene.

The works in the Square are scheduled to be completed by mid-July, with all retailers remaining open and trading as usual throughout the process. Managed in phases, the project prioritises safety while minimising inconvenience for shoppers and businesses.

These upgrades follow previous enhancements in Palace Gardens, which included improvements to the covered mall area outside Waitrose, new toilet facilities, and an upgraded Church Street entrance by Waterstones. Together, these projects form part of a broader plan to enhance Enfield Town’s shopping environment and ensure it remains an attractive and vibrant destination.
